Where is the Amalfi Coast?
In Campania, southern Italy, on the south side of the Sorrento peninsula, facing the Gulf of Salerno. Naples is about 44 km from Vietri sul Mare as the crow flies, beyond the peninsula; Salerno is next door, 13–16 min by train. The coast road, the SS163 Amalfitana, follows the cliffs from Positano to Vietri.
How do you get around the Amalfi Coast?
By ferry, the most scenic way, along the line from Salerno to Positano that stops at Vietri, Cetara, Maiori, Minori and Amalfi; sailings depend on the sea. By SITA bus, all year, along the coast road: from Vietri, Amalfi is 60 min, with changes there for Ravello, Praiano and Positano. By train from Vietri’s station, for Salerno (13–16 min), Pompeii (33 min) and Naples. By car the road is narrow and busy in summer, and parking in the towns is scarce and paid.
How far is the Amalfi Coast from Naples airport?
Naples airport (Capodichino) is about 44 km from Vietri sul Mare as the crow flies. By public transport, go into Napoli Centrale and take the train: Napoli Centrale to Vietri is 55–85 min with a change at Salerno. On weekdays a few SITA buses also run from the airport to Salerno (70 min).
