Is June a good time to visit the Amalfi Coast?
June is many people’s favourite month on the coast: summer has arrived, but the peak of the Italian holidays has not. Afternoons reach about 28.5 °C and nights stay around 19.5 °C, warm enough to eat outside every evening. These are the longest days of the year, with the sun rising around 05:29 and setting around 20:33 in mid-June, so a morning swim, a day trip by ferry and an evening by the sea all fit into the same day. Rain is rare, on about 6 days in an average June, often a short storm on a hot afternoon. Every seasonal service is open. The main things to plan for are heat in the middle of the day and the steps: walk early or late, and keep the hottest hours for the sea and the shade.
Can you swim on the Amalfi Coast in June?
Yes. The sea warms quickly in June: around 23.5 °C on average in recent years (2021–2025), and 22.5 °C over 1991–2020, pleasant for most swimmers and rising through the month. Beach clubs are open with paid sunbeds and umbrellas, and the free sea access next to the property needs no booking. The shores of the coast are mostly pebbles and rocks, so water shoes are useful. Early mornings, before the boats are out, are the calmest and clearest time to swim.
How do you get around the coast in June?
From June the day can start by boat: the taxi boat links Marina di Vietri with the cove in about five minutes, on request, paid and sea permitting, and Marina di Vietri is a short walk from the ferry pier. Travelmar ferries run the full summer timetable from Vietri sul Mare to Cetara, Maiori, Minori, Amalfi and Positano; check the departures for your date. SITA buses still stop at the top of the approximately 200 steps in both directions, which is the alternative when the sea is rough. Trains from Vietri reach Salerno and Pompei.
