Is November a good time to visit the Amalfi Coast?
November is the start of the quiet season. Afternoons are mild, around 18.5 °C, and nights around 12.5 °C, but it is the wettest month of the year, with rain on about 13 days in an average November. Days are short, with sunset around 16:43 in mid-month. In exchange, the coast belongs to the people who live here: no queues, easy parking and unhurried meals. It is olive harvest time, and in Salerno the Luci d’Artista light installations usually open in November and run through the winter; check the dates for your year. Many seasonal hotels and restaurants close in November, so choose places that are open all year and keep the plan flexible around the weather.
Can you swim on the Amalfi Coast in November?
Some people still do. The sea cools slowly and stays warmer than the air: around 20.5 °C on average in recent years (2021–2025), and 19.5 °C over 1991–2020. That is fresh, but swimmable for many on a calm, sunny day, from the free sea access next to the property. Beach clubs are closed. After storms the sea can be rough, so choose the calm days and do not swim alone.
How do you get around the coast in November?
The SITA bus is the most dependable link: from Marina d’Albori the stop at the top of the approximately 200 steps is served all year, towards Vietri and Salerno and towards Amalfi. Travelmar ferries run the autumn and winter timetable between Salerno, Vietri sul Mare and Amalfi, and sailings are cancelled in rough seas, so check before relying on them. Regional trains from Vietri’s station run to Salerno, for Paestum, and Pompei towards Naples. The taxi boat to the cove does not run in November.
